Policies

Guest Policy [Guest List Submission Form]

  1. Residents can add up to 5 guests with their last and first name.

  3. All guests must present a valid MIT ID or government-issued ID (passport, driver's license, other school ID) at the time of check-in.
  4. Minor guests (children of guests) do not need to show IDs and do not need to be entered into the guest list.
  5. Guests can enter unescorted into the building by checking in at the Security Desk.
  6. Guests must be escorted during the period of 12am-8am. Guest lists are not in effect during this time.
  7. To modify the guest list, residents can submit a new response to this form. Older responses will be overwritten.
  8. Overnight guests are permitted to stay up to 3 nights in a 7-day period. They must present an ID to the Security Desk each time they enter the building.

Service Animal (SA) or Emotional Support Animal (ESA)

SA/ESA guidelines in Site4 are not only for owners, but also for other residents. In short, no Emotional Support Animals are allowed in any common areas in the building as per your approval from the Disability and Access Services Office. The only exceptions are hallways, elevators and the lobby as they enter and exit the building.

Pets

According to MIT policy, pets are not permitted in Site 4. Residents who require a Support Animal (SA) or an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) must first obtain approval from the Office of Disability and Access Services to keep an animal on campus. While most SAs & ESAs will be leashed at all times in common areas, a few may need to be unleashed in order to perform the specific tasks for which they are trained.

Smoking

Smoking of tobacco, electrical cigarettes, marijuana, or any kind is not allowed anywhere inside the building. Smoking is also not allowed within 25 feet of the building as smoke is channeled indoors through the ventilation system. Kindly be sure that your visitors are aware of the no-tolerance policy. Violators may be subjected to fines and loss of housing privileges.

Alcohol

According to MIT policy, possession of open containers of alcohol in elevators, hallways, stairwells, and the lobby as public spaces is prohibited regardless of age.

Hanging Items in Your Apartment

Residents may hang pictures and posters on the drywall walls within their apartment using hanging adhesive tape/hooks for walls — no drilling is allowed. Residents should not use adhesives on the concrete walls to hang items. Televisions are not allowed to be mounted on the walls as there are no studs in the walls needed to install the brackets.

Quiet Hours

The building has quiet hours from 11 PM to 8 AM (EST) daily, seven days a week. During these hours, please refrain from playing music loudly (we have a music room on the 4th floor), listening to music loudly, talking loudly, anything else really loudly. Pods are discouraged from meeting during this time. A $50 fine and other punishments are possible for violating this policy. Let’s be considerate of our neighbors!

4th-floor Kitchen's Rules

Please remember to clean up after yourselves (disposing of trash, wiping down spills, etc.).
Residents who do not clean up after themselves are subject to paying a cleaning fee and/or losing access to Picktime.

  1. Show desk worker reservation on your phone to pick up numbered key.
  2. Key CANNOT be given to the resident who has the next reservation.
  3. Key must be returned within 24 HOURS of your reservation and during desk hours.
  4. Desk worker will issue a paper receipt confirming the key return.
  5. Save this receipt as proof of key return to avoid a $35.00 lost key charge.

The 4th-floor kitchen has a reservation limit of 4 hours –– reservations longer than this will be automatically trimmed to 4 hours. The kitchen may also be reserved at most once per weekend, and at most twice per week.

Be sure to cancel your Picktime reservations if you will not use them. When you make a reservation, you should receive a confirmation email from no-reply@picktime.io (check your spam folder). At the bottom of the email, there is a cancellation link.

3rd-floor Playroom's Rules and Guidelines

We have created these guidelines to help ensure that the playroom remains a safe and fun place. Please set a good example and encourage other members of the community to follow the rules. Feel free to contact the Parent Coordinators with any questions regarding playroom rules. If you are caught breaking the rules, you will get a warning. If you are caught a second time, you will be asked to forfeit your privileges temporarily. If you are caught a third time, you will forfeit your use of the playroom for the remainder of the year without a refund of your money.

  1. Always CLEAN UP after yourself and your child. Members are expected to assist in cleaning the playroom. Take good care of the toys and furniture. Please return toys to their place when you are done using the playroom. Member’s must not only clean up after each visit to the playroom but are also expected to attend quarterly (every 3 months) deep cleanings.

  2. Children MUST be accompanied by an adult while in the playroom. Any child unsupervised by an adult will be asked to leave. Please watch your children carefully to avoid any injury or broken toys. Please do not sleep or be otherwise inattentive in the playroom. If your family has a caregiver who will be taking your children to the playroom you must inform the PC of the caregiver's name so she/he can be added to the Playroom Community list. You, as the member, have full responsibility for the actions of the caregiver and any guests in the playroom. One adult may be responsible for no more than 4 children.

  3. Do not use the playroom when SICK. Remember that it is easy for infection to spread in a playroom where so many children play.

  4. No FOOD or DRINKS are allowed in the playroom except drinks in sippy cups.

  5. Remove your shoes and put them in the shoe compartment next to the door. We want to keep our carpets clean. If you bring a stroller, please park it outside the playroom or collapse it and store it out of the way of the play area.

  6. Please turn off the LIGHTS (and the air conditioner) if you are the last to leave.

  7. The playroom is a CO-OP. Please respect the concerns of other members: do not allow entry to people without ID access and always make sure the door is closed to prevent the use of the playroom by non-members.

Playroom Membership Eligibility

Any resident of Site 4 with children is eligible to be a member. For families with children, we have a lovely playroom for children located on floor 3 (available with card access only). The outdoor playground, located outside on floor 2, is available after 5:30 PM on weekdays and all day on Saturdays and Sundays. For access to the playroom, please email the advisory board. We encourage you to get to know other members and build friendships and networks that will enhance your family's time at MIT. Members must also sign a liability release form. The current membership fee is part of your House TAX.
